THE EARLY CHILDHOOD PROGRAM
These three classes are based upon the Royal Academy of Dance (RAD) Early Childhood curriculum. They are designed to capture and nurture the joy of movement and freedom of expression in a fun and imaginative manner. Pre-School Dance explores movement ability, encourages spatial awareness, and builds listening skills, confidence, self-esteem, and physical fitness. Themes, games, stories and Nursery Rhymes are used to inspire the children.
Kindergarten Dance
is adapted for the abilities of a slightly older child. More emphasis is placed upon correct dance stance, a larger set of body skills and basic ballet steps are presented.
Dance Foundation for Gr. 1-2
establishes a comprehensive set of ballet skills while continuing to encourage freedom of expression. It also introduces "age-appropriate" modern jazz skills/style to establish an understanding of this genre which will require a separate class for study in future years.
RAD BALLET
Ballet I and II utilize the RAD Ballet curriculum which is comprised of three aspects of dance training; classical ballet, free movement and character dance.
Free movement utilizes the body's natural movement vocabulary to explore more complex dance movement without having to be concerned about intricate footwork. Character dance, based upon world folk dance and an essential part of ballet repertoire, teaches about music, time signatures, and rhythm while enjoying fun quick- paced foot work. These studies significantly broaden the dancer's understanding of music and helps to nuance their performance

Class Descriptions
MODERN JAZZ
Modern Jazz I and II classes use Modern Dance as its technique. This technique explores the body’s full range of movement while also teaching the dancer about using the body safely. Modern Technique explores spatial dynamics and dance dynamics. Performance and improvisation are also part of this method and is used in these classes to aid the dancer in discovering their own movement style. The Modern Dance Dancer base allows the dancer to build upon their knowledge by trying lyrical, Jazz and hip-hop styles of dance throughout the year.
All classes consist of exercises to improve aerobic ability, enhance flexibility and build strength. Dancers are also taught how the body works and what is considered safe practice. All of these are important in the education of a healthy dancer.
MODERN and TAP CLASSES
This year our school is expanding its offerings to include classes in Modern and Tap classes. These classes may operate either as regular weekly class for the entire semester, or as a subset of classes within the semester.
